2019 Re-watch of the "Star Wars" Skywalker Saga Films

In preparation for the upcoming release of Episode IX of the Star Wars Skywalker saga, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, I recently re-watched all eight films. Here’s my journey via my social media feeds. Enjoy.

Also of note, I watched all three prequel films on Blu-ray with the director/filmmaker commentary track, which was a godsend.

🎥 Watched Episode I of the @starwars Skywalker saga, STAR WARS: THE PHANTOM MENACE (1999). Love the look and the idea of this film, but that’s about it. Gorgeous costumes and wonderful production design get absolutely buried by Trade Federation blah blah blah, racial stereotypes, midi-chlorians, and poor annoying little Annie. 🎥 Watched Episode II of the @starwars Skywalker saga, STAR WARS: ATTACK OF THE CLONES (2002). Pretty much the worst romance ever. How these two ultimately fell for each other is beyond me. (And don’t get me started on flying R2-D2…lol.) The Jedi battle scene on Geonosis is pretty cool, however. ⭐️ out of 5 stars. #starwars #episodeii #attackoftheclones #idontlikesand (📷: @lucasfilm)

🎥 Watched Episode III of the @starwars Skywalker saga, STAR WARS: REVENGE OF THE SITH (2005). The first half is pretty much just more of the prequel bore, but the second half is riveting and heartbreaking as Anakin Skywalker fully becomes Darth Vader. ⭐️⭐️ out of 5 stars. #starwars #episodeiii #revengeofthesith #anakinyourebreakingmyheart #youwerethechosenone (📷: @lucasfilm)

🎥 Watched Episode IV of the @starwars Skywalker saga, STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE (1977). The OG Star Wars film and one of my all-time favorites. I still remember seeing it in the theater for the first time with my family—total life-changer. 🎥 Watched Episode VI of the @starwars Skywalker saga, STAR WARS: RETURN OF THE JEDI (1983). The Ewoks are kind of the worst, as is Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader’s deathbed repentance, but it’s still a fun movie. (And I think remnants of this second Death Star are going to play a role in the upcoming STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER.) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5 stars. #starwars #episodevi #returnofthejedi #yubnub (📷: @lucasfilm)

Still, loved the nostalgia along with the new characters and storyline. 🎥 Watched Episode VIII of the @starwars Skywalker saga, STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI (2017). Rey wants some Jedi training, Luke’s a hot mess, Leia uses the Force to save herself, questions from Episode VII get left unanswered (or are answered unsatisfactorily to some), and a whiny and entitled group of fans blow up the internet with unhappiness. Personally, I think the film is imperfect but still terrific and an excellent middle chapter to this “sequel trilogy.” Bring on Episode IX! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 out of 5 stars. #starwars #episodeviii #thelastjedi (📷: @lucasfilm)
