Disney100 – Pirates of the Caribbean
As part of my Disney100 series, film aficinado Jen Edwards and movie critic Rachel Wagner join me in a discussion of all five Pirates of the Caribbean movies. This wildly popular film series is based on the wildly popular Disney Parks attraction of the same name.

Rachel has ranked all of the movies based on Disney Parks rides, which is here. Also, Rachel’s video of her Disneyland ride rankings is here.
And here’s a different take on the Pirates of the Caribbean sequels from someone who actually likes them (not me).

Happy “Barbenheimer” Weekend
I just wanted to put up a quick podcast to report on “Barbenheimer” weekend and to review both Barbie and Oppenheimer. As you know, “Barbenheimer” is an online phenomenon referencing the fact that the Warner Bros.’ film Barbie and Universal Pictures’ film Oppenheimer were both released in theaters on the same day this weekend, July 21, 2023.
While it has certainly picked up steam in the last few weeks, the actual origins of the meme date back to April 2022, when Warner Bros. announced that Barbie would be released July 21, 2023, the same day that Universal had already established for Oppenheimer. From there, the internet has been going crazy with fan art, custom t-shirts, and poster mash-ups were created and spread all over social media. Both films are getting rewarded at the box office as well. If only we could this quality of films every summer…
Regarding Barbie, check out this fantastic interview with Greta Gerwig about her inspirations for the film.
